After a long wait of 9 months, you finally get to see and hold your baby and eventually go home .In all the excitement don’t forget to keep a close eye on your little one to make sure all the developmental milestones are been met.
Here are a few things to expect in the first month of your baby’s life, at this point if you have been religious keeping a pregnancy journal, you can very well extend it to the first year of your baby’s life to record all milestones.
You will notice your baby constantly staring at you , this is because your baby is trying to commit your face to memory.
Reflexes such as ability to suck by latching on to your nipple during feeding will be exhibited .
A one month old will be able to turn the head while lying on his or her stomach but will not be able to raise the head ,support is needed by the mother to gently hold the head.
Your baby can reach out for things but can not grasp .

Your baby will sleep for about 16 hours a day but in 2 hourly batches .
Your baby can recognize your voice , after 9 months of listening to you speak in the womb .
For the first few days , the eyes may remain shut but will open fully after a few days .
Be ready for lots and lots of crying , because babies can not express themselves they only way they know to communicate is by crying when they feel any discomfort like a wet nappy or need to be fed .
Responds to familiar sounds by jerking or turning head .
You may notice baby begins to suck fingers .
Makes movements with hands and legs while lying down .
Baby begins to exercise the facial muscles by smiling .
New born babies lose between 7- 10 % of birth weight but that is expected to be regained by the second week .
Remember that all babies are not the same , some may develop faster, but be sure to keep a keen eye , if none of this is exhibited , speak with your doctor as soon as possible .
